The Sacrament of Confirmation is typically celebrated in 9th Grade at St. Ignatius, Hickory. However, the program is available to all properly prepared students in grades 9-11. Confirmation Preparation classes focus on learning about the Rite of Confirmation and how to properly ready oneself to celebrate the sacrament.
Pre-requisite: Students who want be confirmed need to have completed either a full year at a Catholic School or a parish faith formation program the year prior to entering the preparation program (usually 8th grade). The Confirmation Preparation Program is required for all students, regardless of whether they currently attend public or private school.
Schedule: The Confirmation Preparation Program begins in September and continues throughout the year. Classes are held on scheduled Sundays from 6:30-8 pm. (See link to schedule above)
Off-campus retreat required: In addition to the classes, there will be an off-campus, full-day retreat that must be attended, as well as a Family Day of Service.
Service training: All students in the program are required to compete the Archdiocese Worthy of the Call Training in order to participate in volunteer service at the church.
Parent Orientation: A Parent/Student Orientation is held prior to the start of the school year where we will discuss the schedule and program in greater detail. Please plan to attend with your child. The orientation date for 2023-2024 will be announced next summer.
Confirmation Date 2023: The Sacrament of Confirmation Mass will be celebrated with Bishop Adam Parker on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
