First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation
REGISTRATION for 2023-2024 IS NOW OPEN! To register click on the Faith Formation tab on this website for a link to our online registration site. NOTE: Students must register for the Sacrament Preparation class AND also either a grade-level Faith Formation class on Sunday morning, through Family Home Ministry, or attend a Catholic school.
Regular attendance at weekend Mass is essential to preparing to receive the Body of Christ. In-person class scheduling from 9:15-10:15 a.m. makes it convenient for families to participate in the 10:30 a.m. parish Mass directly afterwards.
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are typically celebrated in 2nd grade, but older children who have not yet received these sacraments are eligible. Both sacraments are celebrated in the spring semester. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist will be celebrated in spring 2024 (dates pending).
Class Schedule: Students will benefit from both lessons taught at home by parents/guardians and classroom sessions with their peers. A catechist and aide will teach 2 required in-person sessions during Reconciliation prep and 2 in-person sessions during Eucharist prep. Parents are required to meet with the Director in the Parish Hall during these times. This is a requirement, not an option.
Reconciliation is a Sacrament of Healing. It helps us to recognize that if we do something wrong, we hurt God and those we love. Through God's great love and mercy, the Sacrament of Reconciliation help us to be once agin in right relationship with Jesus.
Eucharist is the second Sacrament of Initiation. It is central to our faith, and is the source and summit of our Chirstian life. The reception of First Eucharist is just the beginning of a child's journey in learning Jesus' great sacrifice because of his unending love for us all.
Curriculum: We use Our Sunday Visitor, "Making Things Right", for First Reconciliation and "Called to His Supper" for First Eucharist. This new curriculum is perfectly suited to the 2nd and 3rd grade learner. It includes a Parent Guide and worksheets your child can fill in, complete puzzes, and color pages to aide learning. Bible stories relate Jesus' message of His unending love for each of us.
Sacramental preparation is a wonderful time to learn more about the Mass and about being a part of the parish community. It is an important part of your child's growth and faith development. We are happy to be included in your child's faith journey.
Our Faith Formation staff is available to assist parents/guardians during any part of your child's faith formation and sacramental preparation process. Call (410) 879-0959 for assistance.
